The Fire of Communion

Updated: Jul 21

Scripture:

Leviticus 6:13 — “The fire shall ever be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.”

Message:

The altar fire was not a casual flame—it was a sacred, unceasing presence, symbolizing God's continual dwelling and fellowship with His people. This fire was kept alive by constant attention, sacrifice, and reverence. It represents the divine communion that believers are invited to maintain daily.

Communion with God is like tending a fire. It requires devotion, sacrifice, and vigilance. When we nurture our relationship with God—through prayer, worship, meditation, and obedience—we keep the flame alive in our hearts.

Yet, the fire can easily grow cold. Busyness, distraction, and sin threaten to extinguish this sacred flame. A heart distracted or disconnected can feel distant from God’s presence, like a dying ember. But God’s invitation is to rekindle the fire, to fan the flame of His Spirit within us continually.

This fire is both gentle warmth and consuming power. It refines us, empowers us, and ignites passion for God’s purposes. It burns away what is dead and ignites what is eternal. The call is to be steadfast—committed to nurturing the Presence that fuels life and ministry.

Ask yourself: Are you tending the fire of communion daily? What sacrifices or distractions are keeping your altar cold? Today, renew your commitment to nurture God’s Presence as a living flame within.

Golden Nugget:

A life without communion is like an altar without fire—dark, cold, and powerless.

Further Study:

  • Romans 12:11 — “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”

  • Hebrews 12:29 — “Our God is a consuming fire.”

  • Psalm 84:10 — “Better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.”

Prayer:

Lord, help me keep the fire of communion alive in my heart. Remove distractions and kindle passion for Your presence. Teach me to sacrifice what hinders and to offer myself as a continual living sacrifice. May Your fire burn brightly in me, refining and empowering all I do. Amen.

Activation Challenge:

Identify one habit or distraction that cools your communion with God. Commit today to replace it with a spiritual discipline—prayer, worship, Scripture reading, or silence—to fan the flame of His Presence in your life.

Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us give Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb has come [at last]

and HIS BRIDE (the redeemed) HAS PREPARED HERSELF.”

She has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean—for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

Then the angel said to me,

“Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’”And he said to me [further],

“These are the true

and exact words of God.”
