Scripture:
Leviticus 6:12–13 — “And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it; it shall not be put out… A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.”
Message
The greatest challenge in the life of an intercessor is not starting the fire — it is sustaining it. Many have known seasons of great passion and intensity in prayer, but over time, the flame begins to fade. Distractions come, spiritual weariness sets in, and the heart that once burned with holy zeal grows cold.
But God’s instruction is clear: “The fire shall not go out.” This means that continuous prayer, continual communion, and unbroken fellowship are not options for the intercessor — they are lifelines. The altar that once burns brightly must be constantly fed with fuel.
The fire of intercession dies when altars are neglected. When the secret place is exchanged for busyness, when intimacy is replaced by activity, when spiritual hunger gives way to comfort — the flame dims. Yet every revival in history was sustained by a generation that refused to let the fire go out.
To sustain the fire, the priest had to rise every morning to put wood on the altar. This means there is a daily discipline of returning to the presence of God — not out of duty, but out of love. The “wood” represents everything that feeds your communion with Him: the Word, worship, obedience, and brokenness.
Prayer without the Word becomes dry; the Word without prayer becomes powerless. Both together sustain the flame. You cannot live a life of unbroken intercession without cultivating unbroken communion. The secret is not in long prayers, but in continual awareness of His presence.
To sustain the fire, you must also guard against spiritual ash — the residue of yesterday’s encounters. Ash represents the old fire, what once burned but is now lifeless. Many live in memories of what God once did instead of seeking His fresh move today. Remove the ashes; seek the new flame of His presence daily.
Intercession is not a ministry for a few; it is the heartbeat of every believer who carries God’s presence. The strength to intercede continually is drawn not from human zeal but from abiding in His love. When your altar is fueled by intimacy, your fire will never go out.
You were not meant to burn for a season — you were created to burn continually. Heaven looks for men and women who can sustain divine fire in their generation. Be that person who tends the altar day and night, whose flame lights the way for others to find God.
Golden Nugget
The secret to sustaining spiritual fire is not in striving, but in abiding. When your heart remains on the altar, the flame never dies.

Prayer
Father, I ask for grace to keep the fire on my altar burning. Let nothing steal my hunger or my devotion to You. Teach me to return daily to Your presence, to feed the flame with obedience, worship, and Your Word. Let my life become a continual offering of prayer, love, and intercession. May the fire of Your Spirit never go out within me — in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Activation Challenge
Commit to restoring consistency in your secret place. Choose a specific time each day to meet with God — not out of ritual, but relationship. Keep a journal of what He shows you. Each day, bring new “wood” to your altar — a fresh scripture, a new song, or an act of surrender. Watch as your fire grows stronger and unbroken.
