Scripture:
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. – John 10:27
God has never been silent. From the beginning, He revealed Himself as a God who desires fellowship and communion with His people. In Eden, He walked and spoke with Adam. To Abraham, He gave instructions that shaped the destiny of nations. Through Moses, He revealed His laws and His ways. By the prophets, He declared His judgments and His promises. In Christ Jesus, the Word became flesh, and through Him, the very heart of God was made known to humanity.
The question many believers wrestle with is not whether God has spoken in the past, but whether He still speaks today. The answer is yes. The Lord has not changed, nor has He withdrawn His voice from His people. What often changes is the condition of the heart. A hardened, distracted, or unbelieving heart will miss the whisper of God, though He is always near.
God speaks first and foremost through His Word. The Scriptures are living and active, carrying His unchanging voice across generations. Every word written there remains a present voice to those who believe. Alongside the written Word, the Holy Spirit speaks to the hearts of believers—convicting, guiding, warning, and comforting. His voice is often a still small whisper, heard only by those who quiet themselves in prayer and surrender.
God can also speak through the events of life. Open doors, closed doors, delays, and divine appointments can all be His way of steering us. At times, He will use people to bring His counsel or confirmation. Even creation testifies of His majesty, declaring His invisible qualities and eternal power to those who pause to consider it.
The real issue is not God’s silence but our ability to discern. Just as a radio must be tuned to the right frequency, our spirits must be tuned by prayer, purity, and attentiveness to hear Him. The promise of Christ is sure: His sheep hear His voice. That means every true child of God can grow in recognizing the voice of the Shepherd.
The more one abides in His presence, the clearer His voice becomes. What seems like a faint impression at first can grow into unmistakable certainty as intimacy with Him deepens. The voice of God is not rare; what is rare are hearts fully surrendered to listen and obey.
Golden Nugget
God still speaks today. His voice is not distant; it is near to all who seek Him with humility, faith, and a listening heart.
