God of Covenant and Calling

Updated: Jul 2

Day 2 – Bible Reading Marathon

Today’s Reading: Genesis 11–20 (NKJV)

Reading Instruction

We encourage you to read Genesis chapters 11 through 20 slowly and prayerfully. As you go through each chapter, ask the Lord to reveal His heart and His purpose—not just for Abraham and his descendants, but for you.

After Reading, Take Time to Reflect:

  1. Who is God in Genesis 11–20?

  2. What are His ways revealed through His interactions with Abraham, Sarah, Lot, and others?

  3. What do these chapters reveal about His character?

God reveals progressively – Abram didn’t get the full picture on day one. Revelation came step by step. Obedience invites deeper clarity

Guided Devotional & Reflection

1. Who is God?

In Genesis 11–20, God reveals Himself in new and intimate ways as He begins unfolding His redemptive plan through Abraham:

  • The Disruptor of Human Pride – At Babel, God confuses language and scatters nations (Genesis 11). He resists pride and builds His own kingdom, not man’s.

  • The Caller – He calls Abram out of comfort and into covenant (Genesis 12). God initiates destiny.

  • The Covenant Maker – He establishes an eternal promise with Abraham (Genesis 15, 17).He commits to a relationship with His people.

  • The Revealer – He visits Abraham and shares His plans (Genesis 18). God doesn’t act in secrecy with His friends.

  • The Righteous Judge – He evaluates and acts against Sodom’s wickedness with justice (Genesis 18–19). He is holy and measured in judgment.

  • The Protector – Even when Abraham falls short (Genesis 20), God protects the promise. He upholds His word beyond man’s weakness.

2. What Are the Ways of God?

God’s dealings in these chapters show how He works with individuals and nations:

  • God separates before He sends – Abraham had to leave his homeland before entering his destiny. God calls us out before He brings us in.

  • God builds through promise, not performance – The covenant with Abraham depended on God’s word, not Abraham’s perfection. Faith, not effort, is the pathway.

  • God reveals progressively – Abram didn’t get the full picture on day one. Revelation came step by step. Obedience invites deeper clarity.

  • God honors intercession – Abraham’s plea for Sodom shows that God listens and responds to the cries of the righteous. He values partnership with those who pray.

  • God protects His purpose – Even when Abraham lied about Sarah, God intervened to protect the covenant line.He is faithful, even when we stumble.

3. What Is His Character?

From Genesis 11–20, God's character is profoundly revealed:

  • Faithful – His promises are unshakable, even when tested by delay or human weakness.

  • Holy – God will not overlook sin. Sodom’s destruction was not impulsive, but just.

  • Gracious – God still blessed Lot and his daughters, and He gave Abraham multiple chances.

  • Patient – Decades passed between the promise and its fulfillment. Yet God waited with purpose.

  • Personal – God appears, speaks, visits, and communes. He is not only Almighty—He is near.

Golden Nugget

God's promises are not based on your perfection, but on His unchanging nature. His covenant is bigger than your weakness.

Prayer

Father God, Thank You for being the God who calls, who covenants, and who covers. Like Abraham, I choose to follow You by faith, even when the road is unclear. Teach me to walk in Your ways, trust in Your promises, and intercede with compassion. Shape me into a vessel that carries Your purpose in this generation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Activation Challenge

Take a moment to sit quietly after your reading. Then write answers to the following:

  1. What does God's call to Abraham teach you about your own calling?

  2. Where in your life is God asking for trust instead of explanation?

  3. How can you reflect God’s character in your family, workplace, or community today?

Next Step: Day 3

Get ready for tomorrow’s reading: Genesis 21–30

We'll witness the birth of Isaac, God's faithfulness in family dynamics, and how His hand moves through every detail—even conflict and delay.

Keep going—God is meeting you chapter by chapter!

Textured Paper

Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us give Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb has come [at last]

and HIS BRIDE (the redeemed) HAS PREPARED HERSELF.”

She has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean—for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

Then the angel said to me,

“Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’”And he said to me [further],

“These are the true

and exact words of God.”
