Today’s Reading: Joshua 5–14
Date: Sunday, 20th July 2025
To the Faithful Readers
You’ve now crossed into the Promised Land in your Bible reading journey—and in your spiritual walk. We celebrate your consistency! Day by day, chapter by chapter, the Word is shaping something unshakable in you. Just as Israel began to take hold of their inheritance, so are you beginning to take hold of the truths and promises of God in new ways.
Reading Instructions
Read Joshua 5–14 slowly and with reverence. Watch how Israel is prepared spiritually before they ever take Jericho. Observe the divine strategy, the obedience that brings down walls, and how inheritance is distributed tribe by tribe. There are lessons here about warfare, trust, unity, and legacy.
Guided Devotional
1. Who is God?
Commander of Heaven’s Army – In Joshua 5:13–15, the Lord appears as the Commander of the army of the Lord. He comes not to take sides, but to take over.
Strategist of Victory – God gives Joshua a military plan that doesn’t make sense to the flesh: march silently around Jericho. But God’s ways always win (Joshua 6).
Promise Keeper – The land God swore to Abraham is now being distributed. Decades have passed, but every promise is coming to pass (Joshua 13:1–14).
Just and Merciful – Rahab the harlot is spared and honored because of her faith (Joshua 6:22–25). God delights in redeeming those who trust Him.
Rewarder of the Faithful – Caleb, now 85, boldly claims his inheritance because he wholly followed the Lord. God rewards long obedience (Joshua 14:6–14).
2. What Are the Ways of God?
He prepares you before victory – Circumcision and consecration at Gilgal came before conquest (Joshua 5:2–9). God's victories require inward renewal.
He moves through obedience, not noise – Jericho’s fall didn’t come by shouting until God said so. Obedience is louder than words in God’s economy.
He honors intergenerational faithfulness – Caleb’s bold request proves that age doesn’t disqualify faith. God's promises span lifetimes.
He distributes inheritance wisely – God doesn’t forget anyone. Every tribe receives land—God plans and portions justly and precisely.
He reveals strategy in sacred spaces – Joshua received divine instructions not in a war room, but in worship. Intimacy with God precedes influence for God.
3. What Is His Character?
Holy – Joshua had to remove his sandals on holy ground. God’s presence demands reverence.
Consistent – Just as He was with Moses, He is now with Joshua. God doesn’t change—even when leaders do.
Powerful – Walls fall by His word, cities tremble at His name, and nations bow to His purpose.
Generous – He doesn’t just bring His people into the land—He gives them rest and legacy.
Relational – He remembers individuals like Rahab and Caleb—those who dare to trust and follow Him.
Golden Nugget
God’s promises are not just for us to believe—they are for us to possess. Faith that acts becomes faith that inherits.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for every wall that’s falling and every promise You are fulfilling. Help me to walk in obedience like Joshua, to believe like Caleb, and to worship like one standing on holy ground. Teach me how to fight by listening, wait when You say wait, and move when You say move. This land is Yours, and so am I. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Activation Challenge
What Jericho in your life needs divine strategy to fall?
Where do you need to ask boldly, like Caleb, for what God has promised you?
Take time to map out your own “spiritual territory” – what promises of God do you still need to step into?
