Date: Sunday, 27th July 2025
To All Bible Marathoners
You’ve made it 270 chapters into the Bible! This is not just consistency—this is spiritual transformation in motion. Today, we stand between the closing chapter of Saul’s life and the rise of David’s kingship. This moment marks divine transition—where obedience is rewarded and destiny is fulfilled. Keep your heart expectant!
Reading Instructions
Read through 1 Samuel 27 to 2 Samuel 5 prayerfully. These ten chapters document the fall of Saul and the beginning of David’s reign. Pay attention to how David handles grief, leadership, and God’s direction during a national transition.
Guided Devotional
1. Who is God?
The God of Justice – Saul’s reign ends not by chance, but as a consequence of disobedience. God’s Word is final.
The One Who Raises and Removes – God alone determines the rise and fall of leaders. He humbles Saul and lifts David.
The God Who Grieves With Us – When Jonathan and Saul die, David laments with deep sincerity. God honors true love and loyalty.
The Covenant Keeper – God’s promise to David is beginning to manifest. He is faithful to what He declares.
2. What Are the Ways of God?
God doesn’t rush His process – David waited years from anointing to enthronement. God’s delays are never denials.
God leads through intimacy – David repeatedly “inquired of the Lord” (2 Samuel 2:1; 5:19). Divine guidance requires humility and prayer.
God honors character – David refused to celebrate Saul’s death, proving his heart was not about revenge, but about righteousness.
God preserves a remnant – In all the chaos of war and political transition, God preserves and positions those aligned to His heart.
3. What Is His Character?
Sovereign – He rules over kings and nations. No throne stands without His will.
Faithful – His covenant with David is unfolding. What He promises, He performs.
Gracious – Even when judgment comes, God’s redemptive plan continues.
Intentional – Nothing happens outside His purpose. Every loss and gain has eternal significance.
Golden Nugget
God does not just anoint; He appoints in His timing. Faithfulness in obscurity prepares you for influence in destiny.
Prayer
Father, You are the God of transitions and triumphs. Help me to walk humbly before You in every season—whether waiting or reigning. Teach me to inquire of You like David did, to remain faithful in the hidden years, and to lead with integrity when You exalt me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Activation Challenge
Ask yourself: “Where am I in God's process—waiting, fighting, grieving, or rising?” Submit that place to God in prayer.
Like David, inquire of the Lord today—about even the small decisions.
Write down what God is establishing in your life during this season of reading through His Word.
