Day 30: The Rise of Glory and the Seeds of Decline

Today’s Reading: 1 Kings 2–11

Date: Wednesday, 30th July 2025

Welcome Back, Bible Marathoners!

You’ve come so far—30 days of consistent engagement with God’s Word! Your perseverance is sowing seeds of deep transformation. Let today’s reading ignite both awe and soberness as you watch the rise of Israel’s golden era… and the first signs of spiritual compromise.

Reading Instructions

Read 1 Kings chapters 2 to 11 slowly and prayerfully. These chapters showcase Solomon’s establishment as king, his famed wisdom, the building and dedication of the temple, and the beginnings of his tragic spiritual drift. As you read, keep your heart alert: What draws people to God? What leads them away?

Guided Devotional

1. Who is God?

The God Who Gives Wisdom – When Solomon asked not for riches or vengeance, but for wisdom, God honored him lavishly. God is the source of all true understanding.

The God Who Fills His Temple – At the dedication of the Temple, God’s presence descended in such power that the priests couldn’t even stand to minister. He honors the places built for His name when they are built in obedience and reverence.

The God Who Warns and Watches – Even amid Israel’s glory, God issued warnings. He watches the hearts of kings and people, always calling for loyalty and holiness.

2. What Are the Ways of God?

God honors purity of heart more than outward success – Solomon’s fame and riches were unmatched, but it was his early humility that pleased God most.

God reveals Himself to the nations through obedience – The Queen of Sheba’s awe was not just at Solomon’s wealth, but at how God had blessed him for the sake of Israel.

God gives warning before judgment – Even in Solomon’s splendor, God warned him not to turn away. God always gives us a chance to remain faithful before consequences arise.

3. What Is His Character?

Generous – God doesn’t just give what is asked; He gives abundantly when the heart is right. Solomon asked for wisdom, and God added wealth, honor, and peace.

Holy – God’s presence filled the Temple only after it was dedicated in reverence. He does not dwell where compromise reigns.

Jealous – Though patient, God does not tolerate divided worship. Solomon’s eventual love for foreign wives and their idols provoked God's warning and displeasure.

Golden Nugget

Great beginnings do not guarantee great endings. Staying faithful over time requires constant surrender. Don’t let spiritual success make you spiritually careless.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the blessings You pour out on those who walk uprightly. Help me not only to start well but to finish strong. Keep my heart pure, my motives clean, and my devotion undivided. May my life be a temple where Your glory dwells always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Textured Paper

Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us give Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb has come [at last]

and HIS BRIDE (the redeemed) HAS PREPARED HERSELF.”

She has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean—for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

Then the angel said to me,

“Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’”And he said to me [further],

“These are the true

and exact words of God.”
