Today’s Reading: 2 Kings 11–20
Date: Saturday, 2nd August 2025
You’re Walking Through Hidden Faithfulness
Today, you walk through ten chapters filled with political upheaval, hidden royal heirs, courageous reformers, and divine interventions. Even when wickedness appears to triumph, God is quietly preserving His promise. You’ll see queens plotting destruction, priests risking their lives, kings turning to God—and God turning the tide of nations.
Reading Instructions
Read 2 Kings 11 to 20 slowly, paying attention to the shift in leadership and the spiritual climate of Israel and Judah. You’ll encounter both righteous and evil rulers. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see the thread of God’s redemptive plan in the chaos of human choices.
Guided Devotional
1. Who Is God?
The God Who Protects the Seed – Athaliah tried to wipe out the royal line, but God hid Joash in the temple for six years. He always protects the lineage through which His promises flow.
The God Who Calls Reformers – Kings like Joash and Hezekiah rise as reformers who tear down idols and restore worship. God never forgets His covenant with David.
The God Who Heals and Extends Mercy – In chapter 20, King Hezekiah prays for healing, and God grants him 15 more years. He is a God who hears sincere cries.
2. What Are the Ways of God?
He Uses the Hidden – Joash was hidden for years, yet God raised him in His timing. Don’t despise hidden seasons—they prepare vessels for appointed moments.
He Works Through Leadership – When leaders turn to God, nations are preserved. When leaders rebel, judgment follows. God values righteous rulership.
He Honors Intercession – Hezekiah’s prayer and tears moved God. Divine response is often released through authentic, fervent prayer.
3. What Is His Character?
Faithful to Covenant – God preserved David’s lineage even when it was nearly wiped out. His promises never fail.
Holy and Jealous for Worship – Every idol in high places grieved Him. He raised leaders to restore true worship.
Merciful and Responsive – He didn’t ignore Hezekiah’s cry. Even in times of judgment, God listens and relents when people humble themselves.
Golden Nugget
God is always working behind the scenes, preserving what matters most to His purposes—even when darkness dominates the stage.
Prayer
Father, thank You for preserving Your promises, even when humans fail. Hide me in Your presence like Joash in the temple, until my appointed time. Raise me as a reformer like Hezekiah to tear down every idol in my life and generation. I trust You to extend mercy, healing, and restoration. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Activation Challenge
Reflect: Are you in a hidden season? What might God be preparing in you?
Write down areas in your life or leadership that need reform.
Pray boldly like Hezekiah—ask for healing, clarity, and divine intervention.
