Today’s Reading: Psalms 36–45
Date: Thursday, 21st August 2025
The Story Behind the Story
This collection of psalms moves between reflections on God’s steadfast love, the fleeting nature of human life, and the majestic hope of God’s coming reign.
Psalm 36 contrasts the wickedness of humanity with the priceless love of God, whose faithfulness reaches to the heavens. Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm urging the righteous not to fret over evildoers, but to trust in the Lord and delight in Him. Psalm 40 becomes a song of deliverance, foreshadowing Christ’s ultimate obedience and sacrifice.
These chapters also highlight laments when God feels distant (Psalms 42–43), but they end in renewed hope: “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him.” Finally, Psalm 45 shifts to a royal wedding song, celebrating the King and His bride—pointing to the glory of Christ and His Church.
Reading Instructions
As you read Psalms 36–45, look for the contrast between human frailty and God’s steadfast love. Let Psalm 37 guide your posture toward life’s injustices, and linger on Psalms 42–43 if you’ve ever felt spiritually dry. Then, lift your eyes with Psalm 45 to the majesty of the Bridegroom-King.
Ask yourself: Am I delighting in the Lord, even when evil seems to prosper? Am I longing for His presence like the deer pants for water?

He Revives the Downcast – He draws near to the soul that thirsts for Him (Psalms 42–43).

Faithful and Just – He will not forsake His saints.
Majestic and Eternal – His throne is forever and His reign is righteous.
Golden Nugget
When human strength fails and wickedness seems to prevail, God’s steadfast love remains our anchor. He is both the fountain of life and the Bridegroom-King who calls us into His eternal joy.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your steadfast love that never fails. Teach me to trust You when evil seems strong, to wait patiently for Your deliverance, and to thirst after Your presence above all. Crown my life with Your righteousness, and prepare me as part of Your Bride for the day of Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
