Today’s Reading: Psalms 66–75
Date: Sunday, 24th August 2025
The Story Behind the Story
These psalms echo with loud praise for God’s mighty deeds, while also wrestling with His justice in the face of evil.
Psalm 66 begins with a call to “shout for joy to God, all the earth!”—celebrating His awesome works of deliverance. Psalm 67 turns the focus to the nations, praying for God’s blessing so that His ways may be known in all the earth. Psalm 68 recounts God’s majestic march as the Defender of the helpless and the victorious King.
The later psalms (69–71) highlight David’s personal cries for rescue, with Psalm 69 foreshadowing Christ’s suffering and rejection. Psalm 72 points forward to the reign of the righteous King—a messianic vision of a ruler who defends the poor, crushes oppression, and reigns with justice and peace. Psalm 73, written by Asaph, wrestles with the prosperity of the wicked, but finds resolution in God’s presence: “Whom have I in heaven but You?” The section closes in Psalm 75 with confidence that God is Judge over all the earth.
Reading Instructions
Read Psalms 66–75 with both joy and honesty—celebrate God’s victories, but also pay attention to the laments. Linger on Psalm 72 as a picture of Christ’s kingdom and on Psalm 73 as a reminder that God Himself is our ultimate treasure. Ask yourself: Do I find my security in God’s justice and my joy in His presence?
