Today’s Reading: Psalms 76–85
Date: Monday, 25th August 2025
The Story Behind the Story
These psalms move between awe at God’s mighty power and longing for His restoring presence.
Psalm 76 celebrates God as the awe-inspiring Warrior who breaks the weapons of the nations. Psalm 77 turns to lament, remembering God’s past deliverance while wrestling with present distress. Psalm 78, one of the longest psalms, recalls Israel’s history—warning against forgetting God’s works and calling for faithfulness across generations.
Psalms 79–80 are cries for national restoration, pleading with God to forgive and revive His people. Psalm 81 calls Israel back to covenant obedience, while Psalm 82 reminds us that God judges the rulers of the earth. The section closes with Psalms 84–85—beautiful prayers exalting the joy of dwelling in God’s presence and crying out for revival: “Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?”
Reading Instructions
As you read Psalms 76–85, let yourself feel both the weight of God’s power and the yearning for His presence. Linger in Psalm 84, delighting in the beauty of being near Him, and in Psalm 85, asking for revival in your own heart and in your community. Ask yourself: Do I live in awe of God’s greatness, and do I hunger for His reviving touch?
