The Story Behind the Story
This section of Psalms is filled with thanksgiving, trust, and praise, emphasizing God’s steadfast love:
Psalm 136 repeatedly declares, “His steadfast love endures forever,” recounting God’s mighty acts from creation to the deliverance of Israel.
Psalms 137–139 capture both lament and personal intimacy with God—Psalm 137 mourns Babylonian captivity, Psalm 138 praises God’s faithfulness, and Psalm 139 marvels at His intimate knowledge and presence.
Psalms 140–142 are prayers for protection, deliverance, and guidance in the face of enemies and injustice.
Psalms 143–145 combine pleas for mercy with exalted praise—David closes with a hymn celebrating God’s greatness, righteousness, and compassion, reminding all generations that the Lord is good and His kingdom endures forever.
These psalms guide the reader from remembering God’s past deeds to trusting Him in the present, and finally to celebrating His eternal reign.
