Today’s Reading: Ecclesiastes 6–12; Song of Songs 1–4
Date: Friday, 5th September 2025
To the Faithful Readers
In today’s journey, you conclude Ecclesiastes and step into the beauty of the Song of Songs. Ecclesiastes closes with a sobering truth: all of life is meaningless without God, and the ultimate duty of man is to fear Him and keep His commands. Immediately, the Song of Songs paints a vivid picture of love, devotion, and intimacy—both in the human relationship of marriage and in the greater spiritual reality of God’s love for His people. Together, these passages remind us that meaning, joy, and love are found only in God.
Reading Instructions
Read Ecclesiastes 6–12, reflecting on how temporary wealth, youth, and achievements truly are. Pay special attention to Ecclesiastes 12:13–14—the final conclusion of the book. Then meditate on Song of Songs 1–4, where love is celebrated in purity, longing, and delight. Consider how this mirrors God’s desire for intimate relationship with His people.
Guided Devotional
1. Who is God?
The Giver of True Meaning – Life is only full when lived in reverence to Him (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
The Eternal Judge – He will bring every deed into account, both good and evil (Ecclesiastes 12:14).
The Lover of Souls – The passion of the Song of Songs reflects His deep love for His people (Song of Songs 2:16).
2. What Are the Ways of God?
God calls us to live wisely, remembering our Creator in the days of our youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1).
God shows that pleasures, possessions, and pride cannot satisfy apart from Him.
God delights in covenant love—whether in marriage or in His bond with His people.
God draws His children into intimacy, fellowship, and delight in His presence.
3. What Is His Character?
Holy – He commands reverence and obedience.
Righteous – He will judge all deeds with perfect justice.
Loving – His love is faithful, pure, and unwavering.
Intimate – He invites His people into closeness and joy in relationship with Him.
Golden Nugget
The conclusion of life is simple yet profound: to fear God and keep His commandments. All meaning flows from Him, and all love finds its truest expression in Him.
Prayer
Lord, I acknowledge that apart from You, life is empty. Teach me to fear You, obey Your word, and walk in intimacy with You daily. Thank You for Your faithful love that pursues me like a bridegroom delights in his bride. May my life bring glory to You in reverence and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Activation Challenge
Reflect: Are there areas in your life where you are chasing meaning apart from God? Write them down and surrender them.
Remember your Creator today by dedicating a moment of worship, not asking for anything, but honoring Him as Lord.
Show love practically: express genuine care to a loved one as a reflection of God’s love for you.
