Date: Thursday, 18th September 2025
To the Faithful Readers
As you close the book of Jeremiah and step into Lamentations, you encounter the heavy reality of God’s judgment fulfilled. The destruction of Jerusalem was heartbreaking, yet the lament opens a window to God’s unchanging mercy. Even in the deepest sorrow, His faithfulness shines through, reminding us that judgment is never His final word—restoration is.
Reading Instructions
Read Jeremiah 51–52 and Lamentations 1–8 with reverence. Observe the sobering fall of Jerusalem and the grief of God’s people. As you read, seek the glimpses of God’s mercy, faithfulness, and the hope that still emerges through lament.
Guided Devotional
1. Who is God?
The Righteous Judge – He brings Babylon low and fulfills His word concerning the nations (Jeremiah 51:54–64).
The Covenant Keeper – Even when His people suffer, He does not abandon His promises (Jeremiah 52:31–34).
The Merciful Redeemer – In the lament, His compassion shines through, offering hope amidst despair (Lamentations 3:21–23).
2. What Are the Ways of God?
God fulfills His word of judgment with precision and justice.
God allows seasons of discipline but does not forsake His people forever.
God uses lament as a path to healing, inviting His people to pour out their grief to Him.
God anchors hope in His unchanging mercy, even in the darkest valleys.
3. What Is His Character?
Holy – He will not compromise with sin.
Faithful – His mercy renews every morning, even after judgment.
Compassionate – His heart still beats with love for His people in sorrow.
Sovereign – He controls history, nations, and redemption’s unfolding.
Golden Nugget
Even when judgment falls and sorrow overwhelms, God’s mercy is new every morning—His faithfulness never fails.
