Day 97 - Theme: The Cost of Following Jesus — Faith, Surrender, and Glory

Today’s Reading: Mark 9–16

Sunday, 5th October 2025

Introduction

Today’s reading draws us deeper into the heart of discipleship. Jesus unveils the cost and the glory of following Him. In Mark 9, He is transfigured before His disciples, revealing His divine glory and affirming that He is truly the Son of God. Yet alongside this glory, He speaks plainly about His coming suffering, death, and resurrection — teaching that the path to life leads through the cross.

As we follow Him through chapters of healing, deliverance, teaching, betrayal, and ultimately crucifixion and resurrection, we see the full scope of His mission. The Gospel of Mark ends with the risen Christ commissioning His followers to proclaim the Good News to all creation — a mission that continues through us today.

Who is God?

God is the Lord of glory and the Suffering Servant. He is both majestic and humble, powerful and compassionate. He is the God who calls us not only to witness His power but to share in His suffering and mission.

What are the ways of God?

God’s way is the way of the cross — a path of surrender, obedience, and sacrifice. He calls His followers to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow Him. His ways involve faith that sees beyond the present, love that serves even when it costs, and hope that endures beyond the grave.

What are His characters?

God is faithful to fulfill His word. He is patient with our weaknesses, merciful to restore us, and powerful to transform us. His character is seen in Jesus, who walks steadfastly toward the cross, forgives those who betray Him, and rises to empower His people with His Spirit and authority.

Golden Nugget

To follow Jesus is to embrace both the cross and the crown — surrendering everything for the sake of the One who gave everything for us.

Prayer

Father, teach me the true cost and joy of following Jesus. Give me courage to deny myself, take up my cross, and walk in Your ways. Fill me with the boldness to proclaim Your gospel and the grace to live out Your mission every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Textured Paper

Let us rejoice and shout for joy! Let us give Him glory and honor, for the marriage of the Lamb has come [at last]

and HIS BRIDE (the redeemed) HAS PREPARED HERSELF.”

She has been permitted to dress in fine linen, dazzling white and clean—for the fine linen signifies the righteous acts of the saints [the ethical conduct, personal integrity, moral courage, and godly character of believers].

Then the angel said to me,

“Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’”And he said to me [further],

“These are the true

and exact words of God.”
