RETURNING TO THE WISDOM OF GOD
Scripture
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” — James 3:17 (NKJV)
Message
Human wisdom and God's wisdom do not always lead in the same direction. We may consider a decision reasonable because it promises immediate benefits, protects our reputation, or satisfies our desires. Yet, a decision that appears advantageous to us may not align with the heart and purposes of God.
James describes the wisdom that comes from above by its character. It is pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy, and produces good fruit. This reminds us that divine wisdom is not measured merely by how much we know, how persuasive we are, or how successfully we achieve our goals. It is also revealed through the character and fruit of our lives.
When our thinking is governed by God's Word, we learn to evaluate decisions beyond their immediate benefits. We begin to consider whether our choices honour God, demonstrate love, preserve integrity, and produce what is righteous.
Returning to God's wisdom requires humility. We must be willing to acknowledge when our thinking has been shaped by pride, selfish ambition, bitterness, or worldly standards. We must also be willing to let Scripture correct our assumptions and redirect our decisions.
God does not call us to abandon understanding. Rather, He calls us to submit our understanding to His truth. We can acquire knowledge, learn from experience, and seek counsel while remaining dependent on Him as the ultimate source of wisdom.
Today, examine the areas of your life where you need God's perspective. Perhaps it is in your relationships, work, finances, leadership, or personal ambitions. Invite Him to correct your thinking and guide your next step.
The wisdom of God leads us beyond what seems right in our own eyes and toward what pleases Him.
Golden Nugget
True wisdom is not simply knowing what to do; it is learning to see, choose, and act according to God's truth.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are the source of wisdom and understanding. I acknowledge that my own perspective is limited and that I need Your guidance in every area of my life. Search my heart and reveal any attitude, belief, or desire that is inconsistent with Your truth. Give me humility to receive correction and courage to change when my ways do not reflect Your will. Teach me to make decisions that are pure, righteous, merciful, and pleasing to You. May Your wisdom govern my thoughts, relationships, responsibilities, and ambitions. Help me produce good fruit that brings glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
